1994-95 Collector’s Choice Michael Jordan 240 Gold Signature Auto Signed BGS 9

Great information about the history of the card. This is from my personal collection. I have researched back every way I know how…. I can’t find any info on a BGS 9 or 9.5 (no 10’s exist) for a sale price. Pop report says there only a hand full in existence to begin with… (only 3 have ever graded higher) I assume the reason there are none available for sale is because those few are in private (serious) collections. The subgrades are very high on this card, including two 9.5’s and a 9. I can’t believe they scored centering an 8.5 on this card… I have seen same type of centering on the lesser base and silver versions from BGS score a 9 and 9.5. Those of you that know the characteristics of this gold series of card know how impossible this card is find with a trash and scratch free surface, great centering, razor edges, and sharp corners. Mine is all of the above… A Gem Mint 10 but deemed a 9 by BGS!! I believe this card will sell quickly as I will offer it for a good price. The gold foil from these cards will also fade easy when exposed to too much natural light (also why you will not see another that is my deep, almost rose/bronze color gold) and look more like light colored fools gold. I have compared this card to other gold signatures and even the gold foil on mine is several shades darker than all others! In 1994 Upper Deck launched a new collection called their “Collector’s Choice”. They produced several Michael Jordan cards between the series 1 and 2 sets. This is the, without question, one of the rarest I see come on the market. This #240 was the last one they produced in the set and is called the commemorative edition. It pays homage to MJ and shows his jersey being retired. They held out hope by releasing a baseball and golf edition in the same year set before, finally, paying tribute with this card. It looks absolutely awesome and amazing with the picture they captured with his iconic open mouth/tongue out dunk. This card ridiculously hard to pull from a pack. Try 1 in over 400 boxes… This doesn’t take into account duplicates… Nor does it take into account horribly centered, trash surface or damaged corners/edges etc. I, recently, came across a very interesting article from an author that did an article on how hard it is to find this parallel card… The odds of doing so… And the cost Patrick Greenough wrote : I havent done a statistical breakdown in a while so I figured this rainbow would make for a strong entry. Were talking about Michael Jordan 1994-95 Collectors Choice #23. Ive featured cards with MJ in a Sox jersey before and I guess you can say Im a fan. It wasnt until only recently that I discovered that this was actually a basketball release. I always thought that this card came out of 1994 Collectors Choice baseball. Makes since if you look at it from a logical standpoint. MJ in a baseball uniform, must be from a baseball product. I suppose the contrary fact slipped right by me for all these years. That little anecdote partially influenced my decision to write about this particular release for todays entry. So lets get down to it, the statistical analysis for the base card and its paralleled silver and gold counterparts. This info is pretty darn important so be sure to take note. Base: 1/box (on average). The 94-95 Collectors Choice basketball set is made up of 420 cards. Each pack contains 12 cards. That means you have a 1/35 chance of pulling the base MJ card, that is of course assuming every pack contains different cards than the pack before i. Yea, right, like thatll ever happen with that many packs! Given the strong potential for doubles, lets assume a mean of 35 packs with a standard deviation of 5 (give or take). So that puts us at 40 packs if assuming the probability for pulling doubles. So technically, the odds of pulling the base MJ are roughly one per box. This is great news for buyers with expectations! Silver: 1:12 boxes. This card is somewhat more difficult to obtain. According to Beckett, the odds of pulling a Silver parallel are 1/pack. Gold: 1:409 boxes. This is where things get strange and a little tricky. Beckett states that the odds of pulling a Gold parallel are 1/35 packs. No big deal, thats at least one a box, same as the base right! This difference is that the base was one MJ/box, for this Gold parallel, its 1/box but could be anyone. Thats 14698.8 packs! Lets round that off to 14699 packs. In order to guarantee yourself a Gold MJ, you would have to open, at least, 14,699 packs of 94-95 CC basketball! This astronomical number equates to 408.3 boxs which well round off to 409!!! Assuming a case contains 20 boxes, that means you have to bust 20.5 cases of this stuff to just find the Gold MJ! Tough is a very weak statement. If you find one, be prepared to utilize your haggling skills as this card still demands attention, even this many years later. Its gonna cost you some bucks but dont say I didnt warn you! Best of luck on your hunt. This author above used VERY conservative numbers for market cost of a box and individual packs… Upon doing some research, with current market pricing, on unopened boxes…. Even after you , actually, find one… In order to have a shot at scoring a Gem 10 you then have to hope that after over 24 years of being stored in this box that. The surface is clean of debris, scratches from moving around against the other card in the pack/in the box. That the edges didn’t get dented from shifting around, stacking, falling etc. That the corners were not bent/damaged by the same situations. IF you get lucky (highly unlikely) on all of the above to have a PERFECT condition card.. You STILL have to have PERFECT centering… You can see how, insanely, difficult this card is to get in a BGS Mint condition 9…. I have compared this card to other gold signatures and even the gold foil is darker than others! I have taken careful consideration and weighed all of the above when I came to my value price. Feel free to message me and make a serious offer. I expect that the person that buys this card will make it like the handful of the other ones in existence… Locked away in a private collection and not ever offered for sale again… I have other MJ rare inserts and other cards from my collection that I post from time to time… So check back with me. I do not have the paperwork from Upper Deck and I did bring the piece to a local shop and they contacted Upper Deck and tried to get new Certs issued. BREAKING NEWS: MJ just announced (NOV 2017) that he has ended the flight school which is a camp that he has been running for over 20 years many of the very rare auto cards come from this camp. Now that he has ended the camp he will never ever sign these cards again. That means that over the next few years this card will skyrocket in price!!! This is an amazing Rookie (or XRC) of the greatest basketball player ever!! It is also an extremely scarce and rare card to find. Only around 500 of them have been graded with this grade or higher! A much much smaller number of these cards have actually been signed especially with such a gorgeous signature like this one. There is very possibly not even 50 that exists.
